CBD Weed: What It Is, and How It Differs from the Weed You Know
CBD weed is cannabis flower grown to carry CBD rather than THC, and grown and tested as hemp. It is the same species, the same part of the plant, and it looks and smells the way you would expect. What it does not do is get you high.
ARC Farms grows six strains of CBD hemp flower in climate-controlled greenhouses in Tucson, Arizona, each one testing below 0.3% delta-9 THC.
One Plant, Two Chemistries: Hemp, Marijuana, Weed, CBD Flower
Cannabis sativa is one species. Within it, breeders select for different chemical profiles. A plant bred for high THC produces the intoxicating weed most people know. A plant bred for high CBD and very little THC produces what the law calls hemp.
The plant looks the same either way; the difference is in what it carries. Hemp is grown to keep its THC to a trace, and the lab figure is what shows it.
People use a lot of names for it. CBD weed, hemp weed, CBD flower, hemp flower, CBD bud - all refer to the same thing: the dried, trimmed flower of a hemp plant grown for CBD. "CBD only weed" means the same thing too. The plant carries CBD, and the THC it carries is a trace.
Every ARC Farms strain tests below 0.3% delta-9 THC, and the THC lab results are on the lab results page.
Does CBD Weed Get You High?
No. CBD does not produce intoxication. The World Health Organization's 2018 review of cannabidiol found that "even high doses of oral CBD do not cause THC-like effects."1
What customers describe instead is a calming or settling effect without impairment or mental fog. Some reach for it at the end of the day; others use it during the day and report staying clear-headed. Effects vary by person and by strain. The effects page maps each ARC Farms strain to what customers report.
Does It Smell and Taste Like Weed?
Yes. The smell comes from terpenes - the aromatic compounds in the plant - and hemp carries the same terpenes as THC-dominant cannabis. If you have smelled weed before, CBD hemp flower will smell familiar.
The aroma varies by strain. ARC Farms' six strains range from earthy, pine and fuel (Legendary OG) to strawberry and citrus (Strawberry Lemonade) to tropical and floral (Daiquiri Factory) to berry and funk (Skunk Jam) to fuel and resin (Bubba Kush). Anyone nearby will recognize the smell.
Is CBD Weed Legal, and Where Can It Ship?
Every ARC Farms strain tests below 0.3% delta-9 THC, and the THC lab results are on the lab results page.
States set their own rules for hemp, and some restrict or prohibit smokable hemp flower even when it tests below the threshold. ARC Farms ships flower to 31 states and Washington, DC. The 19 states it does not ship to: California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming. The list changes when a state's rule changes; the current list is on the shipping page.
Will It Show on a Drug Test?
CBD hemp flower is full-spectrum, which means it carries trace amounts of THC alongside the CBD. Standard drug panels test for THC metabolites, not CBD. Even though every ARC Farms strain tests well below 0.3% delta-9 THC, a test can pick up that trace amount.
Anyone who is tested regularly should not assume a pass after using any full-spectrum hemp product, including CBD hemp flower. More detail is on the support page.
How Is CBD Weed Used?
Most people smoke it or vaporize it, the same way they would use THC-dominant flower. A pipe, a dry-herb vaporizer, or rolled - the method is the same.
If you are trying CBD hemp flower for the first time, start with a small amount and see how it sits with you. Effects vary by person.
If smoking is not for you, ARC Farms also makes full-spectrum CBD tinctures - a different form of the same plant's compounds, taken as drops under the tongue.
